Welcome to Rider’s Edge®, the Harley-Davidson Academy of Motorcycling.
Whether you're a two-wheeled novice or a seasoned road veteran, we can help you take the ride of your life. Combining the time-tested curriculum of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation® with the passion of Harley-Davidson, the Rider's Edge® New Rider Course offers hands-on instruction and real-road experience that can teach you the skills you need to get the most out of riding.

A proven blend of classroom instruction and range riding, the Rider's Edge New Rider Course delivers the basics of motorcycle operation in Harley-Davidson style. You’ll learn from devoted instructors certified by both the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and Harley-Davidson to create a relaxed, supportive environment that fosters camaraderie and confidence. And after passing a written and riding skills evaluation, you'll receive an MSF RiderCourse SM Completion Card that could exempt you from the written and/or riding portion of the motorcycle license test, as well as possibly qualify you for discounts on insurance. But more than that, you'll begin a journey that lasts a lifetime.

Important Information for Rider's Edge Students

PAYMENT: If you registered using the online Rider’s Edge registration feature, you will need to make arrangements to pay for your class prior to the first night of class.

WEST VIRGINIA RESIDENTS: WV residents are required by the state to have their motorcycle learner’s permit (or temporary motorcycle instruction permit) prior to attending class. It is a short knowledge test (no riding required) that is taken at the students local DMV.

VIRGINIA RESIDENTS: The state of Virginia requires that all students taking a beginner motorcycle riding course wear a three-quarter shell or full face motorcycle helmet that meets U.S. Department of Transportation Safety standards. As long as students have other eye protection for the class, face shields are not mandatory.
We have a small supply of three-quarter shell helmets to loan for class on a first come, first serve basis. Please let us know as soon as you can that you would like to use one of these helmets so we can reserve it for you. Otherwise, please make sure that you secure an appropriate helmet before class range activities begin.

Requirements:
To take the course, you will need:

• To know how to ride a bicycle.
  
• A valid automobile driver's license or learner's permit and a motorcycle endorsement or motorcycle learner's permit.
  
• Jeans, sturdy over-the-ankle boots or shoes, full-fingered motorcycle gloves, a heavy long-sleeved shirt or jacket and protective eyewear, and
  
• A helmet that meets DOT specifications (if not provided).

Motorcycle:
You’ll be riding the 492cc Buell® Blast®, a light easy to handle sportbike with a rider-friendly design that will have you feeling in control.

Cost:
The New Rider Course costs $295 per person, which includes the use of a Buell® Blast®, Instructors, State materials and motorcycle endorsement testing. Refreshments included.

Schedule:
The course is held over 4 days, from Thursday to Sunday. All sessions are mandatory, so make sure the course fits into your schedule. Times are as follows:

Thursday: 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Friday: 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Saturday: 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Sunday: 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
